The Annual Football Picking Contest

Official Rules

Annual Football Prediction Contest!

Official Contest Rules

1.  Winners will be the prognosticator with best win/loss record in a college, a pro and a combined division (3 chances to win)!  All you have to do is pick the winner of each game – no point spreads involved.  Each game you miss is a –1 and a perfect score for a week is zero. Oh so simple!

2.  Games selected for the contest will consist of NFL weekly and playoff games and FBS college weekly and bowl games of the following conferences: SEC, ACC, Big 10+2, Big 12, American, MAC, PAC-12, Mountain West, Conference USA, Sun Belt, the remaining FBS independents and the Ivy League from FCS (picking the Ivy league is a tradition for this contest and it is where football started so we honor them for the gift of football).

3.  Weekly Pick Sheets will be posted on the web.  Pick sheet submittal is due prior to the week's 1st game kickoff (if you get in a pinch, just email me who you want for the Thursday/Friday games but then be sure to submit the entire pick sheet prior to Saturday's games).  I'll post all the picks to the Results page as soon as I receive everyone's picks.  Weekly standings and results will be posted as soon as I can get to it.

4.  If you are going to be out of town please submit your picks ahead of time before you leave.  Check the Pick Sheets page and see if the week you need is already there as I usually post them well in advance.  If the week you need is not there, let me know and I will make sure the pick sheet(s) you need are posted.

5.  If you do miss a week (what could you possibly have to do that is more important than this pool), you will be given the average score for the players that picked that week.

6.  Entry is open to any and all pickers with or without any knowledge of college and pro football – but it usually helps. There is no entry fee and consequently no prizes – except personal satisfaction, bragging rights for one year, and a nice little e-mail at the end of the season stating where you finished.  Sometimes I have been known to give the winner a hat, trophy or something.

7. NFL Suicide Pool -This is totally separate from the college of NFL picking contests.  The object is to see who can last the most weeks (i.e. be the last active player).  You make one NFL pick each week, if that team losses it counts as a miss and you are allowed one miss for the season (once you miss twice you are out). What makes this hard is once you have picked a team you can not pick that team for the remainder of the season.  Each player is responsible for keeping track of what teams you have used, but I will post a list on the website off all the teams each player has used (and I will try and monitor for duplications as the picks come in). If you make a duplicate pick, it counts as a miss. If you select a team that does not play that week (has a bye) it counts as a miss.
