Question 1 - Can I change my picks after submitting them?

Submissions are final once a pick sheet is submitted, but the commissioner can review, correct, or change them if contacted before games begin.

Question 2 - What happens if I do not submit picks for a week?

The contestant receives the rounded average number of misses from contestants who participated, while the stats page shows a zero picking percentage and marks the missed week.

Question 3 - What if I accidentally submit picks under the wrong name?

Contact the commissioner promptly if this happens. The highlighted name and remembered contestant are intended to help prevent this.

Question 4 – What if I am late getting my picks in?

I really appreciate it if you get all of your picks in before the first game of the week. However, if you find yourself in a bind and running late, you can email me your first few picks (typically the Thursday and Friday games). Just be sure to get all of your remaining picks in via the website pick sheet before those games start. I usually send out reminders to those I have not received picks from. If you are late, I reserve the right to change a late pick you conveniently got correct!

Question 5 - I clicked submit but it did not appear to submit my picks?

The pick sheet automatically checks to make sure that you have made a selection for every game (you can’t submit a partially filled-out pick sheet). The pick sheet should automatically scroll up to the items you did not enter. Also at the bottom will be a message "Complete these before submitting:" with a list of what you did not submit.

Make selections or fill in the missing items and click submit again.

After a successful submission, the public pick sheet will be blank and disabled and will display "Picks submitted." This protects the selections from being viewed or changed by another contestant.

Question 6 - When can contestants see everyone’s picks?

Submitted picks remain private and appear on the Results page once the first game of the week is underway or after everyone has submitted their picks (which ever comes 1st).

Question 7 - When does the website advance to the next week?

Results advance to the next week at midnight on the date of the first game. The Pick Sheets advance either after everyone has submitted their picks or at midnight on Sunday, whichever occurs first.

Question 8 - Why do the NCAA and NFL week numbers differ?

You may notice that the NCAA and NFL week numbers differ (for example, Week 2 contains NCAA Week 2 but NFL Week 1). This is because the NFL schedule begins one week later.

Question 9 - Does Save and Recover Picks still work?

Save and Recover works for an unsubmitted draft on the same browser and device. Make sure you originally clicked the Save button to store your draft (it is not automatic). If you did, click the Recover button to retrieve it. Save/Recover uses browser local storage and does not send the draft to the server.

If you’d like to start completely over, you can always click the Clear Fields button at the bottom of the pick sheet. Once you click Submit Picks, the completed picks are stored privately on the server and the browser draft is removed. Each weekly pick sheet can be submitted only once. Submitted picks cannot be viewed or changed from the public pick sheet; contact me if an administrative correction is needed. Picks remain private on the Results and Survivor pages until the applicable game is marked final.

Question 10 - How does the Survivor Pool work?

This is optional. It begins with the first NFL week, teams cannot be reused, the pick sheet lists previously used teams, and two misses eliminate the contestant.

Question 11 - Does this website use cookies or other stored information?

This site does not use tracking cookies, ad cookies, analytics cookies, or anything like that. Browser local storage is used by the pick sheets for unsubmitted Save/Recover drafts and by the pick sheets and contestant stats to remember the last selected contestant. When you come back to the pick sheet or contestant stats, it will reopen what you viewed last instead of a default picker. One practical note: because the pick sheet and contestant stats remember the last viewed page on that specific browser/device, if two pickers use the same computer, it will reopen to whichever contestant was last selected on that browser (but it will remember the pick sheets and contestant stats separately).

Submitted picks, players, games, results, standings, locks, survivor picks, etc. are stored on the server in MySQL/MariaDB (no more Excel on my end). An unsubmitted Save/Recover draft remains only in that specific browser until it is submitted or cleared.

Question 12 – What happened to WEW’s football picking contest?

WEW decided to end his picking contest at the end of the 2014–2015 season after 42 years of picking contests! He resigned his commission and closed the WEW Picking Contest. Take your pick of the following reasons for his decision:

1. The administration decided to go in another direction with the program – and given his picking record the last few years, he couldn’t really blame them.
2. He needed to spend more time with his family and go to his daughter’s volleyball games – oh wait, that was Urban “the Weasel” Meyer’s reason for leaving Florida.
3. Rather than continuing to combat issues he could never affect (picking the right football teams every weekend, stipends for college players, expanding to an 8-team playoff, NFL domestic violence, concussions, and getting Pope Frankie to tell those jerks at “Notre Damn” to join a real conference), he decided to turn his efforts to resolving issues on the horizon that are severe threats to the future of football: world hunger, the proliferation of nuclear weapons to rogue nations, the rise of radical Islam, and most insidious of all – global warming (it’s tough to play in a stadium filled with water due to rising sea levels… at that point it’s basically water polo).
4. He ran out of rants and felt that you had heard all of his stories about his college days in the previous century. He may have been tired of ranting, but we weren't tired of hearing them!!

The good news: this pool keeps the tradition going (this pool was inspired by WEW’s picking contest). Be sure to check out the Rules page – they are very similar, although the penalty for missing a week is not quite as harsh.

Question 13 – What are some of the improvements to this website?

The contest website was LOOOONG overdue for a complete overhaul given many functions no longer worked and I always seemed to have to patch pick sheets at the last moment. I had to retire in order to get time for this upgrade! I have automated everything from generation of the schedules, to calculating results and everything is now resident on a server database instead of in Excel on my local computer. I hope to get automatic game score results working too (thus the "LIVE" on all the pages). Hopefully this will be a better experience for all of you.

This site was totally redesigned from the ground up with AI and auto coding (which is probably A LOT better than my coding)! The site has been designed to work on desktops, phones and tablets as well as all modern versions of the most popular browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, etc.).
